The origin of the project

From EQUIGENOM to EQUIGENIA

EQUIGENIA does not start from scratch: it is the second stage of work that began with EQUIGENOM. The EQUIGENE array developed back then is the starting point that gives solidity and credibility to the whole platform.

Development of the EQUIGENE array

The first medium-density genotyping chip specific to the Pura Raza Española horse. It enables parentage control, the diagnosis of hereditary diseases, the detection of markers for traits of economic importance and lays the foundations for genomic selection of the PRE.

Digital platform and artificial intelligence

It will put the array's genomic data at the service of the breeder: complete genomic evaluation, offspring prediction, mating simulation and an assistant powered by generative AI.

The problem we solve

From genomic data to the breeder's decision

There is a gap between the powerful information generated by the EQUIGENE array and its practical use in the day-to-day of breeding. EQUIGENIA will close that gap.

The challenge
  • The EQUIGENE array generates highly valuable genomic information, but without a platform to translate it, the breeder cannot apply it to everyday breeding decisions.
  • Breeding decisions rely on pedigree and phenotype; obtaining phenotypic data is costly and arrives late.
  • Each breeder has their own breeding goals and there is no tool that personalises mating recommendations according to those specific criteria.
Our response
  • We will expand and consolidate the PRE genomic database by genotyping with the Axiom EQUIGENE Array.
  • We will turn the data into personalised predictions and simulations, according to each breeder's criteria.
  • We will translate complex information with a natural-language AI assistant, accessible to any farm.

Project benefits

What the PRE breeder gets

The platform will turn the genomics of the EQUIGENE array into concrete decision-making tools for breeding.

Personalised offspring prediction

It will simulate matings and estimate the genetic merit of the offspring according to each breeder's criteria, taking into account the relatedness between the breeding animals.

Early selection

Reliable evaluations from birth thanks to marker equations that will predict the animal's merit from its DNA, without waiting for the progeny test.

Diagnosis of genetic diseases

Early and affordable detection of the predisposition to hereditary diseases with the EQUIGENE array.

Inbreeding management

Active control of the coefficient of relationship to preserve the breed's genetic diversity and improve connections between farms.

AI assistant

A chatbot powered by generative artificial intelligence that will answer questions in natural language and make genomic information accessible to any breeder.

More precise genomic evaluations

Greater reliability of genetic values through the wssGBLUP methodology, which will accelerate the progress of the breeding programme and optimise the use of resources.
